Stop AAPI Hate

Stop AAPI Hate

A statement of solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander community following the recent attacks and uptick in hate crimes and discrimination.

March 22, 2021

The tragedy in Atlanta earlier last week was unfathomable and wrong. The murder of eight innocent people was a senseless act of violence and white supremacy that targeted members of the Asian American Pacific Island (AAPI) community. Sadly, it was not an isolated attack, as hate-filled violence and discrimination against AAPI people has skyrocketed this year.

At Project MORE we condemn all discrimination, including racism, sexism, and xenophobia. It is our belief that all people deserve to be treated with respect and dignity regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, age, immigration status, occupation, or socioeconomic status.

Our hearts go out to the victims of the Atlanta attacks, and we stand in solidarity with their families, friends, and the rest of the AAPI community.

We clearly see how rhetoric can inflame tensions among and between communities. Like the LGBTQ+ community, the AAPI community is vast and diverse. We need to have real, and often tough, conversations about race, and they must involve the diverse community input. Remember you can be an ally and stand up against hateful statements, slurs, and stereotypes that you hear among your friends, family, and peers.

Join us in honoring victims of anti-Asian discrimination and violence through your actions. Educate yourself on how to be a better ally, and report hate incidents at stopasianhate.org.
